Does the Law of Attraction Really Work? A Sceptic Asks Master Dai

A journalist who checks wellness claims asks Master Dai whether the law of attraction really works, why it fails for most people, and whether it is scientifically proven - and gets a one-week test instead of a promise.

This week Master Dai sat down with Theo, a journalist who writes a newsletter checking wellness claims. One question arrives in his inbox more than any other, and he brought it in exactly as his readers type it: does the law of attraction really work? He followed it with the four other questions people actually search for about the law of attraction.

Does the law of attraction really work?

Theo expected a yes or a no. Master Dai gave him neither.

"Half of it works. The half people skip." — Master Dai

The half that works is the oldest part of the idea: like attracts like. A person who walks into a room full of energy meets a different room from the person who walks in drained. Most people who have lived a few decades have seen this for themselves.

The half people skip is what does the attracting. Most law of attraction teaching says it is your thoughts — so you write affirmations, you script, you repeat the sentence until you believe it. Master Dai disagrees with where the weight sits.

"It is not your thoughts that do the attracting. It is your state. You can say a beautiful sentence on a tired, empty body, and what comes back matches the body, not the sentence."

That is why the same affirmation can feel powerful on one morning and hollow on the next. The words did not change. You did. Master Dai put the whole answer into one line:

"You don't attract what you want. You attract what you are."

Why doesn't the law of attraction work?

Theo's next question was the one behind most of the emails he receives: if it works, why doesn't it work for most of the people who try it? Master Dai's answer was almost a joke.

"Because they use it like online shopping. They choose what they want, they place the order, and then they wait for the delivery."

Look at how the method is usually taught: decide what you want, visualise it, believe it is on its way, and let go. Every step happens in the head, and the last step is waiting. When nothing arrives, people assume they did one of the head steps wrong — they did not believe hard enough, or they did not let go properly — and they start again.

Master Dai draws a different line.

"Attraction is something you wait for. Creation is something you do. In our practice the wish is only the first step. Then you gather the energy, and you spend it on the next real action."

In the Onenergy tradition, wanting something is where creation begins, not where it ends. Between the wish and the result sit two things the law of attraction rarely mentions: energy, and the actions that energy pays for. Stop waiting for it to arrive. Start creating it.

Is the law of attraction scientifically proven?

This is Theo's home ground, and he asked it plainly. Master Dai answered just as plainly.

"Not that I know of. And I won't pretend it is."

Then he moved the question somewhere it can actually be answered. You do not need a laboratory, he said, for the part that matters. You need a week and some honest attention.

  • For one week, notice the mornings you wake up full of energy.
  • On those days, watch how the day goes. Do you finish what you start? Do you make the call you have been putting off? Do people say yes to you more easily?
  • Then look at the mornings you wake up empty, and ask the same questions.

Nothing here asks you to believe anything. It asks you to look. Run it honestly and see what you find. Was the difference between your good days and your flat days really your thoughts? Or was it how much you had in you when the day began?

"Your own body is the laboratory."

How does the law of attraction work?

If it isn't the thoughts, Theo asked, then how does it work? Master Dai's answer was three words long: through your qi.

Qi (气) is the Chinese word for the energy you live on — the thing that is low when you drag yourself through the afternoon and full when you wake before the alarm with plans already forming. If the word is new to you, Is qi energy real? starts there, with a test you can do on your own hands.

"Your energy decides three things. What you notice. What you dare. And how other people respond to you."

When your qi is low, you see problems first. You put things off. Without meaning to, you make yourself small — in a meeting, in a conversation, in the plan you allow yourself to make. When your qi is full, you see the openings that were there all along. You act on them. And the people around you feel it before you say a word.

None of that needs a mysterious force. It is the ordinary, observable difference between a person running on empty and a person running full. What you notice, what you dare, who says yes — energy decides all three. That is the half of the law of attraction that people skip, and it is the half you can train.

How to use the law of attraction

The last question was the practical one: if someone reading this wants to use the law of attraction properly, where do they start? Not with the wish, Master Dai said.

"Not with the wish. With the person who is wishing."

Here is the morning practice he described:

  • Take ten minutes in the morning, before the day takes you.
  • Stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and your knees soft.
  • Raise your hands in front of your belly, as if you are holding a ball.
  • Breathe normally, and keep your attention in your palms. When it wanders, bring it back.
  • Then, from that full feeling, choose one thing you want to create today. One, not ten.
  • Take the first step on it before lunch.

Notice the order. The usual method starts with the wish and hopes the energy follows. This starts with the energy and lets the wish come out of it — and then spends that energy on something real the same day. That is the whole difference between attracting and creating.

Practice with Master Dai

If you would rather be guided than read instructions, Master Dai teaches the daily practice step by step in the Onenergy app. Start with ten minutes and one thing to create, and let your own week answer whether the law of attraction really works.
